About the event
Summary: Rose will present an essential component of IPM – “starting clean”. High numbers of potentially invasive pests like thrips, whiteflies, and spider mites can come in on imported cuttings. These pests are difficult to detect and once it's detected, it is often too late for effective control. “Cutting dips” are an effective, safe, and economical method to reduce pest infestation levels at the beginning so that biocontrol strategies are more effective thereafter. She will also summarize the research done in Ontario, Canada, the successful uptake of dipping methods by growers, and the feasibility of such technique in nursery operations elsewhere.
